SiteLock Study Finds as Many as 18.5M Websites Infected with Malicious Content

A recent Sitelock study has found that as many as 18.5 million
websites are infected with malicious content at any given moment.
Some of the other key finds of this study:
– The average website is attacked 44 times per day;
– Sites receive an average of 152,041,201 BOT visits weekly;
– Only 19% of infected websites were blacklisted by search engines;
– 46% of all WordPress sites infected with malware were up to date with the latest core update;
– WordPress websites using plugins were twice as likely to be compromised compared to non-CMS sites;
– 16% of infected sites were defaced in Q4 2017, on par with Q3 2017;
– The average number of malicious files per infection increased .8% from 284 to 309 files;
– Backdoor files made up 12.5% of all malware found in Q4 2017;
– High-risk websites were 27 times more likely to be compromised.
